Dr. Jeffrey D. Gaber’s journey into medicine began at an early age, inspired by his father, Jerome Gaber, a respected general practitioner who served patients for much of the 20th century. Growing up, Dr. Gaber spent countless hours in his father’s office, accompanying him on house calls and attending medical conferences—experiences that sparked a lifelong passion for healthcare.
He went on to attend Emory University, where he completed a rigorous pre-medical program. During this time, he spent several summers at Sinai Hospital, working as a laboratory assistant in organic chemistry on the development of chemotherapy agents, and participating in groundbreaking cardiac research, including work related to the invention of the internal cardiac defibrillator.
Dr. Gaber continued his education at the University of Maryland, first in the Department of Pharmacology and then in medical school, which he entered in 1975. Upon graduation, he was honored with the Milton B. Sachs Award for Excellence in Medicine. He completed a three-year residency in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center, where he was named Chief Resident in 1981. He subsequently became Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

In 1982, Dr. Gaber joined a distinguished medical practice alongside Dr. Stuart Brager and other prominent physicians. The group specialized in internal medicine, hematology, oncology, and endocrinology, and included leaders in the field of cancer treatment. As an original tenant at Greenspring Station in Lutherville, Dr. Gaber gained invaluable experience treating a wide range of complex medical conditions, with privileges at multiple hospitals.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Gaber was deeply committed to medical education. He played an active role in teaching at Mercy Medical Center and was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In recognition of his contributions, he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society.
During the 1990’s, as healthcare systems evolved and hospital acquisitions of private practices became more common, Mercy Medical Center acquired the practice of Drs. Brager and Gaber in 1996. After a five-year transition period and the retirement of Dr. Brager, Dr. Gaber made the decision to establish his own independent practice.
